Max Wyse

December 16, 1924 — June 29, 2020

Max L. Wyse, 95, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, passed away on Monday, June 29, 2020, at Henry County Health Center Emergency Room.

Visitation will begin after 12 noon, on Thursday, July 2, 2020, at Olson~Powell Memorial Chapel, where the family will greet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. that evening. In accordance with COVID restrictions, the family requests the wearing of masks and social distancing practices will be observed. A private family funeral service will be held the next day. Interment will be in Sugar Creek Cemetery. Gifts of love and friendship may be given to Trenton Missionary Church to be used for mission work or Sugar Creek Cemetery. Born December 16, 1924, in Henry County, IA, Max Leonard was the son of Leonard R. and Clara (Roth) Wyse. He was a 1943 graduate of Wayland High School. On December 21, 1946, Max married Ruth Louise Graber at her parents home west of Trenton, IA.

A lifelong farmer, Max also refinished furniture. For many years, he sold seed for Rauscher Seed, along with working part-time for McCoy Plumbing and Heating for 23 years, retiring on December 16, 1987. Max was a member of Trenton Missionary Church, where he served as a church board member for over 50 years, a Sunday school teacher, and Sunday school superintendent. He enjoyed antique restoration and lovingly cared for a large garden. Max had a love of music, especially gospel music, and sang in a gospel quartet in his younger years. Most importantly, Maxs family was his highest priority, and he treasured their time spent together.

Along with his loving wife, Ruth, of 73 years, Max is survived by two daughters, Charla (L.J.) Roth and Janice (James) Hughes, all of Mt. Pleasant, IA; six grandchildren, Julie Miller, Jeffrey (Melanie) Roth, Jennifer (Andrew) Peterson, Joy (Robert) Szewczyk, Jeremy (Heather) Hughes, and Jordan Hughes; 8 great-grandchildren; and numerous cousins.

Max was preceded in death by his parents.
