Catherine "Cass" Jane (Pobanz) Gibson

March 15, 1949 ~ January 26, 2018 (age 68)

Catherine J. “Cass” Gibson, 68, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, passed away on Friday, January 26, 2018, at her home in Mt. Pleasant.

 

Visitation will be held from 12:00 noon until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, January 29, 2018 at Olson~Powell Memorial Chapel.  Family will be present from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel, with Pastor Josh Cody, officiating.  Gifts of love and friendship may be directed to HCI Care Services for their hospice services.  On-line condolences may be directed to www.olsonpowell.com.

 

Born March 15, 1949, in Mt. Pleasant, IA, Catherine Jane Gibson was the daughter of James and Miriam (Cathey) Pobanz.  She was a 1967 graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School.  She married James R. Anderson.  They were later divorced.  She married David Gibson in Mt. Pleasant on September 6, 1985. He preceded her in death in 2005. 

 

Cass worked at Spahn and Rose Lumber Company in New London, IA and then 28 years for Walmart from which she retired in 2014.   She was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Golf and Country Club, and the American Diabetes Association for which she was a state volunteer.  Her passion in life was her family, especially her grandchildren, whom she loved to spend time with.

 

Surviving Cass are two sons, Mike (Shelley) Anderson of Mt. Pleasant, IA, and Tom (Molly) Anderson of Gretna, NE; three step-sons, Brian Gibson of Ankeny, IA, Greg Gibson of Danville, IA, and Steve (Chris) Gibson of Iowa City, IA, one step-daughter, Julie Decker of Ankeny, IA; a special friend, Bob Svidal of Mt. Pleasant, IA; one brother, Brian (Karen) Pobanz of Wayne, New Jersey; three sisters, Carolyn Westbrooks of St. Louis, MO, Fran Warth of Mt. Pleasant, IA, and Cindy Headley of Coos Bay, OR; one half-sister, Candace (Kevin) McGuire of Bradenton, FL; six grandchildren, Avri, Alyvia, Parker, Chloe, Malia, Addisyn; and five step-grandchildren.

 

Cass was preceded in death by her parents and husband David Gibson.
