David L. Bale, 63, of Olds, IA, passed away on Friday, October 13, 2017, at University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics in Iowa City, IA. Visitation will begin after 1:00 p.m., on Tuesday, October 17, 2017, at Olson~Powell Memorial Chapel of Mt. Pleasant, where the family will greet friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. that evening. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Wednesday, October 18, 2017, at First Baptist Church with Pastor Jim Wotherspoon officiating. Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery. Gifts of love and friendship may be given to American Diabetes Association. On-line condolences may be directed to www.olsonpowell.com.Born May 7, 1954, David was the son of Willis and Doris Tolley Bale. He was a 1972 graduate of Galesburg High School and obtained an associate's degree in business from Carl Sandburg College. He served honorably for the United States Army during peacetime in Germany. On June 22, 1985, he married Karilyn J. Hoenig Titus in Kirkwood, IL. David was a bookkeeper in the accounting department for Farm Services of Monmouth, IL. He then started his own accounting firm, Bale Accounting, in Burlington, IA. As a couple, David and Karilyn provided ministry through house parenting for struggling youth, offering structure and instruction to the children, in Nebraska and Florida for twelve years. Most recently, he has been employed by Taft Plumbing and Heating of Mt. Pleasant. An active member of First Baptist Church of Mt. Pleasant, David had a strong commitment to mission and community outreach. He was involved with Samaritan's Purse. He loved music and working with computers. A bicycle enthusiast, David had ridden RAGBRAI twice. Along with his loving wife, Karilyn, of thirty-two years, David is survived by two daughters Jennetta Titus of Winfield, IA and Jenny (Jason) Cox of Monmouth, IL; a son Shawn of Joliet, IL; his mother, Doris Bale of Lisle, IL; two sisters, Linda (Rich) Franckowiak of Naperville, IL and Frances Bale of Naperville, IL; and a brother, Charles (Linda) Bale of Kirkland, WA. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Markus, Clayton, Elijah, Zak, Caiden, Zoe, Karilyn and Claire.David was preceded in death by his father and grandparents.
